Donald Clayton at the second-floor window (American usage) of his residence in 8 St. Clements Gardens, an eight-house row on Thompson's Lane in Cambridge near St. John's College. This is the short lane connecting St. John's College with Jesus Green. Clayton rented the upper two floors for 1 1/2 years during 1970-71. The house was then owned by the Bursar of Emmanuel College, who resided on the ground floor, but the entire row is now a Trinity Hall hostel for their students. Frequent visitors to this house were Fowlers, Arnetts, Stan Woosley, Mike Howard, and Kem Hainbach, the last three among the PhD students with Clayton at Rice University.
