Raymond Davis Jr and Till Kirsten in the gardens at Schwetzingen on Sept. 30, 1979. This was a Sunday afternoon break in the second international GALLEX planning meeting. Kirsten became PI for this very successful European experiment to absorb solar neutrinos by 71Ga. Its results have contributed dramatically to the "solar neutrino problem" , now desribed by Kirsten as three solar neutrino problems. Donald Clayton (who took this photo) withdrew at this time as a potential GALLEX team member owing to his committment to the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory.
