Phil Solomon with Donald Clayton at the October 1984 Conference at Cornell University in honor of Salpeter's 60th birthday. Clayton and Solomon became friends as two of Fred Hoyle's annual American contingent to his Institute of Theoretical Astronomy during the years 1967-72.
