Till Kirsten, PI of the European GALLEX solar neutrino experiment, walking with Donald Clayton on the mountain above the Max Planck Instutut fuer Kernphysik on May 8, 1985. Clayton shared Kirsten's office during 1977-85 while he resided for long periods in Heidelberg. This friendship began in December 1976, when Clayton attended Kirsten's first planning meeting for a Gallium absorber experiment while an Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist, sponsored by Kirsten.
