George Fuller and Donald Clayton in Sedona AZ for the conference on nuclear astrophysics at high T and low lifetime (Aug. 8-14, 1999). Fuller's talk was "Neutrino flavor transformations in supernovae". Clayton's display poster was "Radioactivity-induced chemistry within supernova interiors". Clayton and Fuller were both graduate students of William A. Fowler at Caltech. Clayton was the first such at Caltech (1957-61), whereas Fuller was Fowler's last such student. Fuller's thesis led to a series of famous papers on weak decays in supernovae coauthored with Fowler and with Michael J. Newman, a Caltech postdoc who had done his Ph.D. thesis at Rice University with Clayton. (FFN ApJ 1980, 1982a,b, 1985).
