Clemson University Wordmark

Richard L. (Dick) Macklin of ORNL, Donald D. Clayton of Caltech, John H. (Jack) Gibbons of ORNL in spring 1963 at ORNL. Oak Ridge National Lab was beginning an experimental program to measure neutron-capture cross sections for use in the astrophysical s process. Clayton's visit to ORNL was to provide theoretical motivation for that goal, which resulted in Revs Mod Phys 1965 January paper on those first measurements for the s process. Macklin remained the leader of that ORNL program for four decades. Gibbons became science advisor to President Bill Clinton.
