Mark Leising defends his PhD thesis with Donald Clayton at Rice University on August 7, 1986. Leising's thesis involved gamma ray production and escape from the atmospheres of novae. See "Positron annihilation gamma rays from novae", Leising and Clayton (1987) ApJ, 323,159. This effort remains active at Clemson under CGRO OSSE team.
