Frank Shu and Geoffrey Burbidge chatting prior to Cameron's Henry Norris Russell Lecture at the 190th meeting of the AAS in Winston-Salem, 9 June 1997. Shu had worked energetically on a theory of chondrule and CAI formation in the early solar system that would account for the extinct radioactivities by particle irradiation from the young sun. See also the speaker group in the next photo. Burbidge achieved lasting fame by coauthoring the 1957 Revs. Modern Phys. paper "Synthesis of the Elements in Stars" with his wife, Margaret, and with W. A. Fowler and Fred Hoyle. Neta Bahcall can be seen between and behind them.
